About the Role:

 

The Director CMC External Development Services Lead will be a key contributor to enabling and driving external technical development across BioNTech’s product pipelines and modalities. He/she will lead a small team of CDMO managers and CMC technology transfer managers and will be responsible for ensuring effective execution of external development activities and/or technology transfers in alignment with internal program priorities, timelines and cross-functional expectations.

In this role, the Director CMC External Development Services Lead will act as a strategic CMC business partner to internal stakeholders and will ensure that external execution strategies are aligned with development goals. The role also includes leading team performance, strengthening capabilities, and driving continuous improvement of processes and ways of working. A strong background in both leading complex cross-functional matrix teams and direct line management of organizational units is essential for success in this position.

 

 

Your Contribution:

 

  • Manage external development activities from a business perspective and/or oversee technology transfer activities based on expertise, ensuring delivery, timelines, and cross-partner alignment
  • Act as lead strategic CMC business partner to internal stakeholders, aligning program priorities with external execution strategies
  • Lead, coach and develop a small team of CDMO and technology transfer managers
  • Provide leadership across complex cross-functional matrix structures and ensure alignment among diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Drive organizational effectiveness, team performance and capability development within the External Development Services team
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes, tools and ways of working within the CMC External Development Services team
  • Support successful execution of external technical development across multiple product pipelines and modalities

 

 

A good Match:

 

  • A degree in life sciences, engineering, business or a related field with several years of professional experience in an international (bio-)pharmaceutical environment
  • Several years of leadership experience in complex matrix organizations, with a proven ability to drive cross-functional collaboration and delivery without direct authority in all cases
  • Experience as a line manager, including leadership, development and performance management of teams and/or organizational units is considered a plus
  • Strong understanding of CMC development, external development services, and/or technology transfer activities
  • Experience in working with CDMOs and managing external partners in a complex development environment; experience in working with China-based CDMOs is considered a plus
  • Strong business partnering skills and the ability to align internal stakeholders around priorities and execution strategies
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex topics
  • A continuous improvement mindset and the ability to optimize processes and ways of working
