The Associate Director / Director Legal will be a key member of the BioNTech global legal team and will provide guidance and counsel on matters related to BioNTech’s new and ongoing global clinical programs and research & development projects in China,as well as support for other activities in China. This role will work across the BioNTech organization and will primarily support BioNTech’s clinical and research teams in China and will assist with the negotiation of various types of contacts, including clinical trial agreements and strategic services agreements with pre-clinical and clinical vendors. Responsibilities
The responsibilities will include:
- Serve as the primary legal support and contact for various clinical project teams and other business stakeholders in the management of all legal aspects of ongoing and new projects.
- Provide legal support to the clinical and regulatory teams for the production and filing of documents required for the conduct of clinical trials in China, including, for example, advice on relationships with clinical research organizations and clinical trial sites.
- Understand and advise on aspects of clinical trial supply in China and globally, as well as relationships with contract manufacturers.
- Understand the strategic and tactical objectives of the relevant clinical project teams and other business stakeholders, taking into account the legal and regulatory landscape.
- Provide legal advice and counseling for China local leadership team on certain other legal matters, including on general contracting and labor law.
- Act as a strong business partner in drafting, reviewing and negotiating various types of contracts; support the Legal team in development of contract templates in national and international contexts.
- Assist with maintaining corporate policies and procedures and ensure consistent application of these throughout the business.
- Provide training to key internal clients.
- Work collaboratively and creatively with internal clients by clearly and effectively rendering practical and timely legal advice on complex issues/concepts.
- Keep informed of new laws, regulations, codes of practice and industry trends affecting the organization.
- Advise on the interpretation of legal documents and applicable laws and regulations in a manner that provides practical legal advice while properly managing risk to the organization. Work with BioNTech’s intellectual property and data privacy teams to ensure that IP and privacy issues are adequately managed.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer in good standing.
- At least 7+ and preferably 10+ years of prior legal experience, including relevant life science / pharmaceutical experience.
- Detailed knowledge of current pharmaceutical laws and regulations in China. Knowledge of other jurisdictions is also helpful.
- Familiarity with evolving laws and regulations applicable to life sciences in China, including as relates to data privacy and supply.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Good drafting skills and ability to analyze complex legal issues.
- High degree of personal ethics, integrity and accountability.
- Candidates must have the soft skills to navigate a complex and evolving organization and be able to develop policies for the organization.
- Proficient in English, both spoken and written
