About the role:
- This role will serve as a high-impact strategic partner for BioNTech China, leading the local HR Business Partner (HRBP) team to align people strategies with key business milestones, including clinical trial phases, production expansion, and commercial readiness. The role is responsible for driving organizational excellence by translating complex biopharmaceutical business needs into actionable HR strategies.
- The position will work in close collaboration with HR Centers of Excellence (CoEs), including Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, HR Operations, and Learning & Development, to deliver seamless and integrated HR solutions.
Your contribution:
Strategic Business Partnering & Advisory:
- Act as a trusted advisor to department heads across key functions, including Research, Clinical Development, Manufacturing, and CMC, on all people-related matters, while conducting organizational assessments to identify priorities that drive long-term business success.
- Partner closely with the China HR Head and country leadership team to develop and implement HR strategies that enhance business performance and support overall organizational objectives.
Strategic Workforce Planning:
- Forecast future talent needs by aligning workforce planning with scientific milestones, drug development pipelines, clinical timelines, and commercial plans, rather than relying solely on budget cycles.
- Lead talent management initiatives, driving development and retention strategies to ensure the organization has the capabilities required to deliver on its strategic priorities, supported by strong talent processes and workforce planning.
- Identify and mitigate critical skill gaps, particularly in high-demand and business-critical areas.
Organizational Development & Change Management:
- Partner with the business to drive organizational development initiatives, providing HR insights and guidance to enable successful transformation and sustainable change.
- Design and execute change management initiatives to support organizational transformation and ensure smooth, effective transitions.
- Optimize organizational structures to enhance productivity, efficiency, and overall effectiveness.
Talent & Culture Excellence:
- Oversee the end-to-end talent lifecycle, including succession planning for critical roles and building robust leadership pipelines, particularly for scientific and technical talent.
- Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture that balances scientific rigor with commercial agility, enabling both innovation and business impact.
Employee Relations (ER) & Compliance:
- Drive ER and labor relations strategy and philosophy, promoting employee engagement, psychological safety, and an inclusive culture across the organization.
- Lead the design and implementation of progressive employee relations frameworks, policies, and practices aligned with organizational values and business objectives.
- Serve as a key liaison between management and employees, effectively addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, and fostering a positive, high-trust workplace environment.
- Oversee complex employee relations matters, including investigations into grievances, misconduct, and compliance issues, ensuring fair and consistent outcomes.
- Ensure full compliance with local labor laws and regulations, proactively mitigating employment-related risks and strengthening governance.
Data-Driven Decision Making
- Leverage HR analytics and predictive insights (e.g., attrition risk, engagement trends) to inform evidence-based recommendations and support strategic decision-making at the executive level.
- Utilize workforce data and HR metrics to assess trends, measure the effectiveness of HR initiatives, and continuously enhance organizational performance.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing local HRBP team, equipping team members with the capabilities, tools, and insights to effectively partner with their respective business functions.
- Set clear performance objectives and foster a collaborative team environment, promoting knowledge sharing and best practice exchange across the HR function.
A good match:
- Bachelor’s degree required; a Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 5 to 8 years in a senior HRBP or HR leadership role within the biopharma, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry.
- Proven track record of leading HR teams in dynamic, fast-paced, and matrixed environments.
- Seasoned HR leader with significant experience partnering with senior stakeholders in complex, international, and matrixed environments.
- Proven strategic advisor with a strong track record of driving impact across organizational design, workforce strategy, executive talent, and enterprise transformation.
- Strong business and organizational acumen, with the ability to align people strategies to business priorities and deliver measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated success in leading high-performing HR teams and managing broad HR portfolios, combining strategic insight with operational excellence.
- Deep understanding of the leadership challenges within scientific and medical populations, particularly in supporting transitions into leadership roles.
- Solid expertise in local labor laws and global compliance frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with full professional proficiency in English.

Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
