Country Clinical Coordinator* Australia 

 

 

BioNTech intends to progress the development of investigational mRNA-based medicines and other product candidates with the aim to treat up to 4,000 cancer patients in Australia and New Zealand over a ten-year period, either in clinical trials or as authorized treatments. The country clinical coordinator will help operationalize this strategy, working with key delivery partners such as The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Austin Health, Alfred Health, Monash Health, and OMICO, a nationwide state cancer genomics service. The coordinator will also help scope out and add further partners to this network. This builds on a strategic partnership that BioNTech signed last year with the State of Victoria to strengthen the mRNA ecosystem, including building a manufacturing facility in Melbourne.

 

The Company has already established a clinical trial footprint in Australia with several investigational cancer therapies for indications with high unmet medical need and is currently recruiting cancer patients in Australia for several of its investigational therapies across various drug classes.

 

The Country Clinical Coordinator* is a specialized role that focuses on strategic guidance and clinical trial implementation within Australia´s healthcare system to deliver the strategic goal outlined above. The Country Clinical Coordinator* will offer expert clinical and scientific support throughout the clinical trial lifecycle, from planning to implementation.

This role requires a thorough knowledge of the local healthcare environment, including healthcare practices, regulatory requirements, and the subtleties of the local medical community.

This position requires a combination of scientific skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to navigate the local healthcare environment effectively, while partnering effectively with relevant internal and external stakeholders such as country specific research organizations.

 

 

Your main responsibilities are:

 

  • Healthcare Professional Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key investigators and external experts, advising on clinical trial protocols and best practices.
  • Strategic Advising: Offer strategic guidance on clinical trial design and execution, tailored to the local healthcare system and local treatment landscape including reimbursement information.
  • Clinical Trial Support: Provide scientific and clinical expertise to support the planning and execution of clinical trials, aligned with our strategic priorities. Ensure understanding of site capabilities and priorities.
  • Regulatory Advice: Support relevant stakeholders as needed to ensure that all clinical trial activities comply with local regulations and ethical standards.
  • Knowledge Management: Stay abreast of industry literature, guidelines, competitive landscape, and best practices relevant to clinical trial execution.
  • Insight Gathering: Collect and analyze feedback from clinical trial sites & investigators to inform and optimize design and strategy, both within individual trials and more broadly across BioNTech activity in the country.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders such as Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, etc. to ensure a cohesive approach to trial execution and healthcare professional engagement.

 

 

What you have to offer:

 

  • Advanced degree in a relevant scientific or medical field (MD preferred with clinical expertise or training in oncology, preferably experience with modalities in our clinical development pipeline (antibody-drug conjugates, immune checkpoint modulators, cancer vaccines, cell therapies).
  • Proven track record in pharma sponsored trials setting; or experience of conducting clinical research in an academic setting. This ideally includes experience with clinical trial design, management, and knowledge of local healthcare regulations and codes of conduct for interacting with healthcare professionals and organizations.
  • Industry experience in a similar role such as Medical Science Liaison or Clinical Research Associate; or experience in an equivalent role as a healthcare professional.
  • Strong network within the local medical community and academic sites.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Project management and effective prioritization in managing multiple competing priorities.
