About the role:
Join BioNTech as we establish a cutting-edge mRNA research and manufacturing facility in Melbourne, designed to support R&D and clinical trials while strengthening Australia's mRNA ecosystem. As our SHE Manager, you will play a pivotal role in creating a safe and sustainable work environment at our Innovation Center and GMP Manufacturing Facility. You will lead the development and implementation of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) management systems that align with corporate guidelines and Australian regulations, contributing directly to our mission of pioneering innovative therapies.
Your contribution:
- Lead the implementation of SHE management systems covering occupational health, industrial hygiene, chemical safety, risk management, permitting, compliance, and sustainability.
- Conduct legal compliance audits to ensure adherence to Australian regulations and corporate policies.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and external auditors on SHE matters.
- Investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions for continuous improvement.
- Design emergency plans and coordinate drills while supporting safety committees, first aiders, and wardens.
- Develop environmental programs aligned with BioNTech’s sustainability goals.
- Provide SHE expertise during risk assessments for safe operational start-up at the new site.
A good match:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science; Graduate diploma in OHS preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in occupational health, safety, or environmental roles within pharmaceutical or biotech industries.
- Strong knowledge of Australian SHE regulations (e.g., Victorian Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004).
- Proficiency in SHE management systems (ISO 45001/14001/50001) with exceptional planning skills.
- Analytical mindset with risk assessment capabilities and proactive hazard identification expertise.
- Effective communication skills for stakeholder engagement within an agile international environment.
