Strategic Sourcing Manager* - Laboratory Services 

 

In this role you will execute sourcing strategies that add significant value for BioNTech (e.g. savings, payment terms, increased compliance/sustainability, reduced risk) and have a high business impact. The role will entail RFx development, competitive bid analysis, contract development / negotiations, and strategic supplier management. Part of your responsibilities will include optimizing internal sourcing processes, workflows, and interfaces to reduce time of delivery and costs in support of industry best practices. In some cases, the Strategic Sourcing Manager will manage and/or mentor less-experienced sourcing professionals.

 

This individual will be expected to deliver value and competitive advantage to the business as measured by customer satisfaction, project execution, value improvement / value capture, and risk mitigation. He / She will implement a sourcing strategy for subcategory portfolios and will work on delivering cost reductions for spend areas such as custom Assay Development and Companion Diagnostics. Resulting savings and added value will be recorded and reported. Core to this role will be the need to develop and build trusted business partner relationships and deliver tangible value locally, regionally, and globally.
 
Your main responsibilities are:

  • Early engagement with your business stakeholders in the Central and Specialty lab area in order to define a sourcing strategy compliant with Procurement guidelines and internal/external process standards
  • Plan and execute sourcing events for both strategic initiatives and tactical, ad-hoc projects
  • Lead the sourcing activities from identification of need through contract execution including RFx management, vendor selection, contract negotiation (MSAs, Work Orders, and Change Orders), and manage required resources and documentation
  • Regularly engage with stakeholders to understand their priorities and requirements
  • Actively manage and contribute to risk management, supplier qualification / due diligence with SMEs and key stakeholders
  • Strive for cost optimization and manage KPIs
  • Closely collaborate with various business functions (e.g., Translational Sciences, Clinical Operations, Biolytics, Quality Assurance, Legal, Finance, etc.)

 
What you have to offer:

 

  • University degree in science, engineering, business management, or law
  • 5+ years global strategic sourcing experience managing complex spend categories and close interaction with senior leadership personnel; 3+ years must be in the Pharmaceutical / Biotech industry
  • A solid understanding of clinical research activities and services
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills combined with collaboration, influencing, and communication competencies
  • Excellent communication / presentation and organizational skills; ability to persuade others based on compelling arguments and fact-based presentations
  • Strong analytical skills – the ability to analyse and distil large amounts of data to identify opportunities and/or trends to support strategic sourcing direction
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently and in a self-disciplined manner
  • Proven negotiation and supplier management skills
  • A profound understanding of contract law
  • Experienced and comfortable working in a virtual team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, working knowledge of ERP systems and sourcing tools (e.g., Coupa, SAP)
  • Ability to engage and lead in a matrix environment
  • A collaborate, globally focused mindset
  • A passion for functional excellence
  • Native English, written and spoken - German is a plus
