As the Director Laboratory Procurement you are a strategic leader responsible for aligning procurement strategies with business goals, driving innovation, and ensuring compliance and risk management across the supply chain. Overseeing laboratory material and service procurement for Research and Clinical Development, the role involves implementing long-term category strategies, analyzing data for cost-saving opportunities, and fostering a resilient supply base. Key responsibilities include collaborating with executives, advancing procurement digitalization, integrating sustainability and ESG practices, and championing new suppliers to adapt to evolving business needs and market conditions.
Your responsibilities:
- Driving the development and the implementation of category strategies jointly with the business by identifying and assessing business needs globally and promoting their adoption across the company
- Oversee sourcing activities and pro-actively collaborating with business for an early engagement to achieve company objectives (i.e. identifying opportunities for cost optimization and procurement process improvements)
- Lead the sourcing activities from identification of need to contract execution including RFI/RFP management, decision-making to final vendor selection as well as contract negotiation (MSAs, Work Orders and Change Orders) and manage required resources
- Identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks within the supply base (e.g. geopolitical risks, compliance, financial), incl. developing mitigation plans and contingency strategies
- Ensuring adherence to internal procurement policies and external regulations (e.g. antitrust laws, procurement guidelines, internal control frameworks, GXP-regulations)
- Supporting audits and conducting compliance training
What you have to offer:
- Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field, with over 7 years of experience in a regulated environment
- Strong ability to guide, motivate, and build relationships with team members, stakeholders, and cross-functional departments
- In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, tools, systems, and best practices
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and analytical abilities to address complex situations effectively
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems
- Advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills tailored to the area of responsibility
- English proficiency at a negotiation level is mandatory; German language skills are advantageous
