Director Digital Solutions MES for individualized mRNA

The Director of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) Applications is responsible for the technical architecture, development, implementation and maintenance of the BioNTech Digital MES system landscape across our individualized mRNA production sites. This role ensures that the MES system is enabling the business strategy and goals, optimized for performance, security, and scalability, supporting the business needs of our individualized mRNA production. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who combines technical expertise with strategic vision and has a strong background in manufacturing technology, automation and data-driven decision making.

 

Your main responsibilities are:

  • Strategic leadership: Design and implement MES system architecture and integration with partner systems like ERP, LIMS, PCS, etc. for our individualized mRNA production
  • Stay updated on the latest MES technologies and trends to ensure system relevancy
  • System implementation: Oversee the implementation, run & maintain activities, further customization, configuration, interface development and upgrades of the landscape of the MES system. Build and lead an organization that efficiently troubleshoots and resolves technical issues related to the MES system according to the business needs of our mRNA production sites
  • Team leadership: Lead and mentor a high-performing MES technical team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Customer satisfaction: Collaborate with the Business of our individualized mRNA production sites to understand challenges, processes, requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Vendor and Partner Management: Manage relationships with MES system vendors and technology partner, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of services, updates and support
  • Compliance and security: Ensure the MES landscape adheres to the regulatory (GxP) requirements as well as the digital strategy and the IT principles, incl. security standards, integration architecture and other defined best practices and guiding principles

 

What you have to offer:

  • 10+ years of experience in digital MES solutions development and implementation, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role

  • Proven track record of managing MES system implementations with MES implementation projects in the individualized therapeutic area

  • Deep technical knowledge in MES system architectures. Strong understanding of programming languages in the MES environment

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for digital Manufacturing/MES solutions

  • Strategic mindset fostering the implementation of simple and scalable solutions meeting the business short-mid and long-term needs

  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills

  • Ability to manage and mentor technical cross-functional teams in a matrix environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Understanding of business-language to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions

  • Fluency in German and English, both oral an written
