About the Role
As Executive Director of Clinical Science you will lead a dynamic team dedicated to advancing clinical development at BioNTech. You will shape the vision, mission, and culture of the department while driving innovation across early and late-phase clinical studies. As a member of the Global Development Leadership Team, your leadership will ensure high-quality delivery of protocols, data packages, and process improvements that impact our pipeline and portfolio success.
In this role, you will champion clinical trial innovation, foster cross-functional collaboration, and establish best practices to support BioNTech’s mission. Your contributions will directly influence organizational goals while cultivating an environment that emphasizes scientific excellence, continuous improvement, and teamwork.
Your Contribution
- Lead strategic planning for clinical science resources, talent development, succession planning, and retention strategies.
- Build a collaborative environment focused on learning and professional growth for Clinical Scientists across the department.
- Oversee portfolio management to ensure consistency in clinical deliverables across programs while advancing quality assurance initiatives.
- Champion innovative approaches such as decentralized trials, real-world data applications, generative AI tools, and novel study designs.
- Develop metrics to track output trends associated with protocol development for continuous improvement opportunities.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on compliance with GCP guidelines while fostering a culture focused on quality across BioNTech.
- Represent the Clinical Science function in cross-functional activities including due diligence for incoming assets or business development initiatives.
A Good Match for Us
- Advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD) with over 15 years of related experience in clinical development leadership roles
- Proven track record in managing clinical teams accountable for delivering portfolios of studies with measurable results.
- Strong leadership presence with expertise in talent strategies, process improvement initiatives, financial acumen, and enterprise mindset.
- Ability to foster scientific excellence while promoting teamwork, adaptability, execution quality, and effective communication within teams.
- Recognized internally and externally as an expert in clinical science with strong mentoring/coaching abilities to develop team members’ skills further.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs while navigating organizational changes effectively to achieve results amidst uncertainty.
