Scientist, Cell & Gene Therapy 

 

We are seeking a highly passionate and motivated Scientist to join BioNTech’s Center of Excellence in Cell & Gene Therapy Research, Process & Analytical Development and Manufacturing facility in Gaithersburg, MD. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary Research team dedicated to revolutionizing cancer treatment, focusing on developing novel TCR-T cell therapies targeting solid tumors. As a key contributor to our mission, you will be responsible for generating patient-derived tumor organoids to provide critical insights to various cell therapy modalities. This unique opportunity offers you the chance to directly impact the future of cancer treatment, working closely with our expert teams across the US and Germany BioNTech sites in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Processing of tumor biopsies to generate and culture patient-derived tumor organoids from various cancer indications.
  • Genetic engineering of primary immune cells and patient-derived tumor organoids and perform functional and phenotypic characterization of engineered cells by multi-color flow cytometry and ELISA.
  • Design, optimize and execute cell-based functional assays to evaluate combinations of different immune cells and enhancements in eliminating tumor organoids.
  • Present results to scientific peers, stakeholders, and collaborators in a professional manner.
  • Assist with the training of junior lab personnel to move projects forward.
  • Track and compile results in an electronic notebook.


Requirements: 

  • PhD in Immunology / Biomedical Sciences or a closely related field with 0-4 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in immunological techniques and immunoassays, such as activation of T cells, T cell transduction, flow cytometry, ELISA.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in making impactful scientific presentations to a diverse, cross-functional audience.
  • Proactive, self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills and an appropriate sense of urgency and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in liquid handling/automation to carry out high throughput, cell-based assays is a plus. 
  • Experience in working with 3D culture and tumor organoid models.
