Associate Scientist, Cell Therapy 

 

We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join BioNTech’s Research, Technical Development, and Manufacturing facility in Gaithersburg, MD. You will be part of the multi-disciplinary Research team focused on developing personalized TCR-T cell therapies targeting solid tumors.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Culture primary T cells and cancer cell lines.
  • Design and execute in vitro experiments for TCR screening, validation, and characterization to support TCR immunotherapy product development.
  • Develop and optimize novel tools and/or methods for characterizing TCR functionality to help with lead candidate prioritization.
  • Support mRNA synthesis efforts within the team as needed.
  • Optimize current protocols and processes by incorporating more automation workflows to enhance throughput.
  • Record experimental procedures and results in an ELN and disseminate findings to the rest of the team in a timely and professional manner.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-8 years or Master’s degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience in immunology, cell therapy, or closely related field
  • Skilled in aseptic cell culture technique and cultivation of primary human cells
  • Experience with common immunological techniques such as leukopak processing, cell isolation, viral production and cell transduction, T cell activation assays and cytotoxic killing assays
  • Experience in multicolor flow cytometry
  • The ability to think critically and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills and ability to communicate results to a diverse cross-functional audience
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally, be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and embrace change
  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail
  • Proactive, self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in Molecular Immunology techniques including but not limited to PCR, in vitro transcribed-mRNA production, and RNA purification
  • Experience with automation instrumentation and high-throughput technology including liquid handlers. Strong interest to learn and operate automation equipment is desirable.
  • An understanding of T cell biology and adoptive cell therapy.
