Associate Process Engineer, MS&T 

 

Reporting to the Engineer II of MSAT (Gaithersburg, MD), the Associate Process Engineer will perform lab studies such as process characterization and mixing model simulations, support lab operations and support manufacturing of cell therapy products in the BioNTech Gaithersburg facility.

 

Primary Responsibilities

This person will apply basic engineering principles to solve issues and evaluate opportunities for process improvements, conduct routine tasks as directed using experimental, modelling and engineering techniques, and evaluate new technology. This role requires good communication skills to build efficient working relationships as part of a technical team.  This role requires good problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and escalates issues as necessary. This position requires working on-site as an essential function.

 

More specific responsibilities include:

  • Learning to work compliantly in a highly regulated GMP environment.
  • Support planning, ordering and stocking of lab supplies and equipment. 
  • Learning and developing CFD (computational fluid dynamic) modeling simulations.
  • Supporting and documenting laboratory experiments and studies to characterize equipment and processes.
  • Perform basic analytical testing.
  • Support Manufacturing deviations and investigations as necessary.


Requirements:

  • Willing to work in a laboratory environment.
  • Requires Bachelors’ degree in a chemistry/biology/engineering discipline. Master’s degree preferred, but not required. MBA with science/engineering background welcome.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem solving and project management.
  • Willingness to think outside of the box and adapt best practices in a constantly evolving environment.

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Prior experience with Pharma/Biopharma process development/quality/manufacturing preferred, but not required.
  • Proficient knowledge of manufacturing processes, CMC requirements, process technologies and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with process monitoring tools and strategies.
  • Experience with change control, deviation management, investigations and CAPAs.
