Job summary

BioNTech US is seeking a highly motivated vaccinologist to join the Systems Immunology team. Our group aims to first understand immune responses from a big-picture perspective and then harness these responses to derive novel tools to combat infectious diseases. The successful candidate will work within a dynamic, collaborative, and multidisciplinary environment consisting of computational biologists, structural biologists, immunologists, and microbiologists on the Systems Immunology team and within the broader BioNTech research community. Key responsibilities of this role are to design and execute large-scale and diverse immunoassays to help evaluate leading vaccine candidates including BioNTech’s cutting edge malaria and mpox vaccines. This role also offers the opportunity to contribute to design and characterization of early-stage vaccine candidates. If you are excited about infectious diseases vaccines and having project ownership while working on a highly collaborative team to achieve mutual goals, this will be a good fit for you.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Drive early-stage evaluation of novel vaccine designs.
  • Collaborate and communicate experimental progress with both internal research teams and external groups to advance team projects.
  • Maintain a high standard of record keeping and experimentation, including assay and instrument troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to IND-enabling studies and technical document writing for filing.
  • Work productively in a team environment and independently to deliver against timelines.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Immunology, Virology, Microbiology or related field with in-depth knowledge of host-pathogen interactions.
  • Experience in humoral immunology in infectious disease, immunogen design, or related discipline is preferable.
  • Virology expertise is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated experience in cell-based immunoassays, ELISAs, ELISpots, multi-color flow cytometry and fluorescence activated cell sorting is highly desired.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
