Program Technician, Safety, Health & Environment

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • The Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Technician will work, in conjunction with the other members of the SHE Department, in the implementation and execution of site’s safety, environmental compliance, and emergency management programs.  Assist with a wide variety of SHE services in support of research laboratories.
  • SHE Program Support.  Lead the execution of site’s good catch/near miss reporting program and promotional materials, activities, and reward programs.  Support SHE site lead in execution of training for site personnel.  Support the purchasing of equipment, supplies, and other consumables and the management of the ongoing inventory and completion of equipment calibrations.  Coordinate departmental meetings and maintain meeting minutes.  Provide assistance to SHE team in development of meeting materials and coordination of internal and external meetings and events.  Responsible for managing electronic and hardcopy departmental records, including those required by regulation.   Support waste management services and conduct routine inspections.
  • Emergency Management Support.  Serve as coordinator for the site’s emergency response team (ERT) responsible for scheduling and facilitating routine internal and external training and team meetings.  Provide support and coordination during spills of hazardous materials.  Responsible for supporting fire drill and evacuations of the site in coordination with the ERT and site security team.  Maintain roster of site personnel and serve as administrator for emergency alert system.  Monitor and support emergency communications over radio, public address, and alert system.  Conduct routine inspections of automated external defibrators (AEDs), first aid kits, trauma kit, fire extinguishers, safety showers/eye wash, and other emergency response equipment and materials.
  • Regulatory Support.  Prepare monthly incident statistic reports and support the completion and posting of annual OSHA 300 reports.  Track important regulatory reporting and permit filing deadlines and coordinate these activities in support of the site EHS team.  Manage the administration of safety data sheets for the site in electronic and hardcopy records.
  • Document Management.  Review, proofread, edit, update, and manage correspondence presentations, spreadsheets, and other documentation while maintaining confidentiality; scanning, filing, organization of hardcopy and electronic documents and records; composition/proofread of correspondence and documentation while maintaining confidentiality.  Mange administrative review and update of department forms, policies, and procedures.  Develop signage and labeling as needed.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or degree in a relevant scientific discipline and less than one (< 1) year of environmental health and safety work experience required or the following substitutions:
    • Associate’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline and a minimum of three-five (3-5) years of environmental health and safety work experience
    • High school diploma and a minimum of five-seven (5-7) years of environmental health and safety work experience
  • Ability to assess chemical hazards, containing chemical spills and following appropriate emergency response procedures
  • Ability to use respiratory protective equipment and wear Level C protective clothing
  • Ability to lift and move heavy drums, up 50 pounds
  • Microsoft Office application experience: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Demonstrated flexibility and professional maturity to readily understand priorities and anticipate needs.
  • Must have a positive “can do” attitude, be a consummate team player, show excellent judgment as well as work well independently.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office including WORD, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills including attention to detail and ability to effectively multi-task with a willingness to perform a wide range of tasks including working with confidential information.
  • Customer service mindset. 
  • Monday through Friday, 8:30 – 5:00PM
  • Preferred requirements; Additional college level education a plus.
