Legal Corporate Counsel (Clinical and Research & Development)

 

The Legal Corporate Counsel (Associate Director level) Clinical and Research & Development will be a key member of the BioNTech global legal team and will provide guidance and counsel on matters related to BioNTech’s new and ongoing global clinical programs and research & development projects.  This role will support BioNTech’s clinical and research teams across the organization and will assist with the negotiation of various types of contacts, including clinical trial agreements and strategic services agreements with pre-clinical and clinical vendors.  This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing department and have a meaningful impact within a fast-paced and highly innovative organization. 

 

Responsibilities

 

The responsibilities will include:

 

  • Serve as the primary legal support and contact for various clinical project teams and other business stakeholders worldwide in the management of all legal aspects of ongoing and new projects.

  • Act as a strong business partner in drafting, reviewing and negotiating various types of contracts; support the Legal team in development of contract templates in national and international settings.

  • Understand the strategic and tactical objectives of the relevant clinical project teams and other business stakeholders, taking into account applicable current legal and regulatory landscapes.

  • Assist with maintaining corporate policies and procedures and ensure consistent application of these throughout the business.

  • Provide legal advice and counselling on data privacy matters in the U.S. and other jurisdictions. 

  • Provide training to key internal clients. 

  • Work collaboratively and creatively with internal clients by clearly and effectively rendering practical and timely legal advice on complex issues/concepts.

  • Keep informed of new laws, regulations, codes of practice and industry trends affecting the organization, and assist with development of policies and training as needed. 

  • Advise on the interpretation of legal documents and applicable laws and regulations in a manner that provides practical legal advice while properly managing risk to the organization, including as relate to intellectual property and data privacy matters.

 

 

Requirements 

 

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; active membership and in good standing in a state bar.
  • 6 plus years of prior legal experience, with preference for relevant life science / pharmaceutical experience.

  • Detailed knowledge of current pharmaceutical laws and regulations in key jurisdictions, including Europe and the United States.

  • Familiarity with data privacy laws and regulations related to the United States and the European Union.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Good drafting skills and ability to analyze complex legal issues. 

  • High degree of personal ethics, integrity and accountability. 

  • Candidates must have the soft skills to navigate a complex and evolving organization and be able to develop policies for the organization.
