About the Role:

In this pivotal role as Director, Statistical Programming, you will work closely with the Head of Statistical Programming to implement a cutting-edge global statistical programming ecosystem. Your expertise will drive innovation in technologies, automation, and processes, ensuring alignment with BioNTech's mission to revolutionize healthcare while meeting regulatory standards. Your Contribution:
- Collaborate with leadership to establish a global statistical programming ecosystem, driving vendor oversight, innovation, and alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements
- Lead the development and implementation of programming standards, best practices, and innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and quality
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of statistical computing environments (e.g., SAS, R, Python) and cloud-based platforms for clinical trials
- Ensure infrastructure scalability, security, compliance with FDA 21 CFR Part 11/GxP standards, and support for reproducible research
- Develop reusable macros, scripts, and automation pipelines (e.g., SAS macros, Python/R workflows) to streamline dataset generation and reporting processes
- Promote automation for routine tasks (e.g., SDTM/ADaM mapping) while establishing governance frameworks for code quality and documentation
- Evaluate emerging technologies like AI/ML models or natural language processing to integrate innovative tools into workflows
- Provide technical guidance on advanced programming techniques while fostering a culture of continuous learning within the team
A Good Match:
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related discipline; advanced degree preferred
- Extensive experience (15+ years or 10+ years with advanced degree) in statistical programming within pharmaceutical/biotech/CRO industries
- Advanced proficiency in SAS, R, Python programming languages for clinical trial data analysis and reporting
- Hands-on experience with statistical computing environments (SCE) and cloud-based platforms (AWS/Azure)
- Expertise in developing automation tools/macros to improve efficiency in statistical programming workflows
- Familiarity with regulatory submission requirements (FDA/EMA/CDISC standards) and emerging technologies like AI/ML models or data visualization tools
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects globally while collaborating with external vendors/partners in a matrixed organization
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement and innovation
If the position is filled in the US, the Expected Pay Range is $185,500/year to $262,000/year + benefits, annual bonus & equity (bonus and equity is variable and dependent on company and individual performance). Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Compensation at other locations may vary significantly.
